Lee Ann Forbes aims to bring home TT’s second Miss World title

Miss Trinidad and Tobago World delegate, Lee Ann Forbes is on a hectic schedule but it’s all worth it because come November 6, she knows she’ll be at her very best when she comes up against delegates from over 100 countries on the Miss World stage in London.
Juggling among make up courses, work-outs at the gym, courtesy calls, dance and other development training plus the pursuit of her tertiary education may be a bit tiring, but the 21 year old 5’8” beauty said, “It’s all worth it!”
“Right now it’s a little hard for me to get time for myself but there are things that I have to achieve and I’m getting there,” Lee-Ann said. If she is successful, she will be the second woman to bring home a Miss World title. She said because of the training she is being exposed to, she is confident the world will see her in the top ten of the competition.
Lee-Ann is excited about her physique. She said she is at a stage in her life where she feels the most healthy and fit. She said more young women should act now and live healthy lifestyles. “I am putting in a lot of work at the gym and I’m seeing real benefits. I’m fitter and I feel good about myself. I think more young women should be more aware of their lifestyles and make a decision to become healthy,” she said.
“Most women join gyms only to get toned for Carnival season, but there are real benefits in sticking to a healthy routine and I’m proud of the benefits I’m seeing in myself. I’ve always had a healthy lifestyle so nothing much has changed, it’s just that I feel better about myself.
“So many young people are suffering from diseases and obesity like diabetes and that’s sad because too many youths are into the wrong things instead of living healthy lifestyles,” she added.
Although Lee-Ann’s selection as this country’s delegate has exposed her to new and exciting experiences, she has stayed grounded. “I’m the same person as before. I am exposed to much more and I have experienced a lot of positive experiences and have had lots of opportunities but I am still me. My successes have not changed who I am,” she said.
When it comes to her evening wear for the pageant, Lee-Ann is not sure who is going to outfit her. She noted however, that it may be between Peter Elias, Meiling or Jagdeo Rampersad who would be bestowed with the honour of dressing her for the world stage. She noted that although she is uncertain whose design she would wear, she is opened to any option and she completely trusts the judgement of the local designers.
Lee-Ann said she is sad about the social ills affecting the country. She said she is hopeful people would use the State of Emergency to reflect on positive change. “I’m concerned about the direction this country is heading. People should become more open minded and use the imposed curfew to think about their lives and this country and see how they could contribute to change; it’s in their interest; crime is affecting all of us,” she said.
Recently, Kristina’s shoe store outfield Lee-Ann with over ten pairs of trendy shoes as part of her preparation for the UK pageant. Speaking at the handing over ceremony a the store at the corner of Queen and Frederick Streets, Port-of-Spain, the store’s Operations Manager, Suresh Singh, said Kirstina’s is very happy with sponsoring Miss World. “It is the right fit for us because she is very glamourous, have always been associated with sponsoring for pageants and Lee-Ann will do us proud.”
Meanwhile, Lee-Ann said she is happy that Kristina’s stepped forward to sponsor her footwear. “The right footwear makes a statement not only with your outfit but with your confidence, so I am hoping to make even more of an impact with I go to London,” she said.
Lee-Ann leaves for London in October in time for the pageant. In September, she will host a charity fashion event, to raise funds for Lady Hochoy Home.
