Seeing all the countries arriving in the Bahamas for Miss Universe with no Miss Trinidad and Tobago is a very sad time. Delegates holding their national flag in pride as they arrive is such a wonderful thing to observe. T&T should of been one of the top countries there this year. Especially with the competition right in the caribbean. Miss T&T would of been a huge favorite to win again. sadly, no one seems to see the great oppertunity that these girls have to promote their country and represent it with pride and passion.

Miss World is right around the corner later this year. Are we not going to be represented at that pageant to?. I hope there is a Miss Trinidad and Tobago at Miss World. T&T has been doing so good not to be a part of the pageant this year. Lets hope for at least a Miss T&T at Miss World later this year.
Since we are not going to be at Miss Universe

Designer gets Miss TT/World franchise
By MELISSA DASSRATH Wednesday, August 5 2009

FASHION designer Michael Raghunanan is the new holder of the Miss TT/World beauty pageant franchise. Raghunanan who operates Michael’s Vogue Designs is a member of the Fashion Entrepreneurs of Trinidad and Tobago (FETT) group and his designs were featured at the 2009 TT Fashion Week and the 2009 Caribbean Fashion Week.

Speaking on the franchise, Raghunanan said, “This is not a money-making venture. If anything, it comes down to pulling out of my own pocket at times. But I’m doing this for the love of my country.”

In the coming months, Raghunanan plans to stage a national beauty pageant to select a delegate for the Miss World pageant which will be held in December in Johannesburgh, South Africa. The Miss TT World Pageant has suffered from inconsistent and inadequate funding in recent years. A lack of Government support and corporate sponsorship has resulted in dwindling interest in the pageant. Raghunanan estimates that approximately $150,000 will cover the cost of preparing and styling a delegate.

Raghunanan said he was motivated by the Culture Minister’s vow to cover 80 percent of the cost to send a delegate to the Miss World pageant. “I sense that the Minister is a woman of integrity and honour so I am expecting her full support,” he said.

And while Raghunanan is now the Miss TT/World franchise holder, the Miss TT/Universe franchise remains in abeyance after well-known style guru Peter Elias decided to relinquish both the Miss World and Universe franchises.
