I know your report is overdue but I thought I'd answer just for fun Name and Rank and Job?
Jim Cpl 11B20
How were you recruited?
I was drafted

Was the war different from what you had expected before you arrived? In what ways?
Never thought about it much

What was your first impression of Vietnam?
I didn't think the women were attractive
they got better looking as time went by

How do you feel about the outcome of the War?
Don't really care anymore

What, if anything, do you feel you gained from your time in Vietnam? Gained absolutely nothing except maybe an early death from kidney failure which they claim is AO related.

Did you experience any anti-war propaganda?
never paid much attention to the rich brat college boys or their parents trying to protect their precious rugrats.

Was there anything that you enjoyed while you were in Vietnam? I remember a nice cool one once, usually they dropped them off warm

What did you feel was the biggest turning point in the war and why? They all say it was Tet, was it? go ask some egghead who's read more

How do you feel the United States government handled the war? The government handled that war like they handle everything else

What do you think of the Tet offensive of 1978 and what effect do you think this event had on the war? The Tet 68 was an admitted total disaster for the NVA however it gave the doteing moms and their brats all the ammo they needed to pressure us out of Vietnam. Exactly what the NVA had counted on Tet for. In other words they outsmarted the American people, not that that is any great accomplishment.

How do you feel about the war now?Waste of lives time effort and money.

Are you feelings different from when you entered the war and now?no

How do you feel about My Lai? It had to be a leadership problem. In my unit in Vietnam you acted accordingly or you were in deep do-do.

Did you find it a shock to return home and find the anti-war movement was as large and predominant as it was or were you made aware of it whilst in Vietnam? First of all the anti war movement was neither large or predominant . I lived twenty ,miles from San Francisco and never saw a demonstration in the 60s. They did show every incident nationwide though, so out of a country of 200 million there were always enough to occupy news cameras. Another thing, everyone from that era was not a long haired hippy in contrast to the medias portrayal of the era. 99 percent of people were normal short haired kids and remember I lived in California 20 miles from San Fancisco.I was completely aware of the whole situation long before I went to Vietnam. It was no shock but I'll have to admit going from the jungles of I Corps to Travis then SF INT airport and being called a babykiller took me a little by surprise. Yes there were those that were vocal anti war types and they usualLy were around to greet returning troops. Most Americans though were either indifferent or critical in their own stupid way of Vietnam Veterans. In actuality most infantry type vets were drafted or volunteered because they knew they were getting drafted anyway. Of course nowadays they were all volunteers and recon warriors. Too funny.I don't recall killing any babies nor had I ever seen it done or heard of it done in my unit over the grapevine. Buncha hippy propganda like most the rest.

How do you think the media effected the war? The media was a bunch of college punks who spent way too much time in front of the mirror practicing to be talking heads. I have read lately that most of the reporting at the Vietnam level was correct , and got twisted ,subverted and perverted by the owners of the media source or their editors stateside. In other words don't trust the media , they lie.
