Howdy Wedge;

SP5 Robert Blanchard Hedge's Army serial number is RA 11466658 (which means that he enlisted and did so from a New England state) and his MOS was 67N20 (UH-1 Helicopter Repairman). His date of birth is 7/21/46. His tour of duty in Vietnam began on 12/11/66 and he was assigned to the 117th Assault Helicopter Company, 1st Aviation Brigade. He was KIA on 2/26/68 in Bien Hoa Province due to "Non-Hostile, Ground Casualty, Vehicle Crash" and his body was recovered. SP5 Hedge's hometown of record is Plymouth, MA, his religious preference was Roman Catholic, and he was single.

Additional comments: Notice that SP5 Hedge's tour of duty in Vietnam lasted for more than 14 months. He must have volunteered to extend his one-year tour. Bien Hoa Province is the province adjacent to and to the northeast of the Municipality of Saigon (now called Ho Chi Minh City) in III Corps. The Coffelt KIA Database says that the 117th AHC was either attached or assigned to the 101st Airborne Division at that time, but there's something goofy about that. The 101st was located in I Corps and northern II Corps which was nowhere near close to Bien Hoa Province. So, there's a mystery as to what was SP5 Hedge doing near Saigon? To obtain more information, you will have to contact the guys of the 117th AHC at http://www.117thahc.org/ . Good luck!
