Hi sir/ madam,
My name is Sami and i am a high school student at Niles West High School. I had to ask a soldier or a survivor of the Vietnam War. If you can, please answer the following questions for me. Just copy and paste onto an email address and then fill it out to make it easier for you. Thankyou. Questions that you may not want to answer, is simply fine.
1) During most of the Vietnam War (1961-1973), what were u doing? (School, job, etc)
2) Did you serve in Vietnam? If yes:
a) when?
b) where?
c) what did you do (type of service)?
3) If you didnt serve in Vietnam, did you have close friends or relatives who served? If yes, what do u remember most about their experiences in Vietname?
4) Did yo uknow anyone who was killed during the war or who was wounded? If yes, what stands out in your memory?
5) Of all the theings about Vietnam, what are your most vivid memories?
6) Do you remember watching news about Vietnam on television? What do you remember about that?
7) Is Vietnam "still with us today"? In what way?
8) Do you feel the Vietnam War was right or wrong? Please explain your anwer.
9) what do you most remember about the anti-war protests? How did you feel about those protests? How did you learn about them?
10) Except television, did you witness any pretests against the Vietnam War?
11) Do you remember the 1968 Democratic Convention that was held in Chicago? What was your feeling about the violence that took place in Grant Park? Did you know anyone who was there?
12) Have you seen the Vietnam War Memorial in washington, D. C.? If yes, what feelings did you have when you visited the memorial? Did you talk with other people at the memorial? Did you find the name(s) of anyone you know on the wall?
13) Describe what you feel was the "mood of th epeople of the US" during the war:
a) early 1964-196
b) late 1970-1973
14) Did you view of wheter we should be in Vietnam change during the course of the war? If yes, what factors contributed to that change?
15) Do you think we could have avoided our involvement in Vietnam? If yes, what could we have done?
16) Do you think that the Vietnam War could have been won? If yes, how and at what cost?
17) If all the Vietnam verts you know, whta long term effect did the war have on them? Have there been any health problems that resulted from the war?
18) Of all the movies that deal with the Vietnam War, which one that you have seen would best be similar to the real war?
19) Should students in high school American History classes study the Vietnam War? Why or why not?
20) What should be stressed to students about the war?
21) Are there any other comments that you would like to add that are not included in this questionnaire?
