Howdy Julie;

What time period are you talking about? I don't think that we had Apache helicopters in Vietnam, but we did have Cobras. By the word "gunner", I assume that you mean "door gunner". Door gunners were mainly on Hueys and sometimes on Chinooks and in more recent times on Blackhawks. Cobras and Apaches are dedicated attack helicopters with two-man crews and there is no room for a door gunner.

Do you have any information on Charles Lewis' unit and the time period served? With a common last name like "Lewis" the task is hopeless without some additional information. Do you have any idea of how many Charles Lewis's that there are who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces over the course of last forty years? My guess would be about five hundred at least.
