Howdy Bridget;

PFC Gary L. Hall, LCPL Joseph N. Hargrove, and PVT Danny Glen Marshall were all members of "E" Co., 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. They were all KIA on 7/21/76 in Cambodia due to "Hostile, Air Loss, Crash on Land". Their bodies were not recovered. The date of 7/21/76 is more than a year after the War in Vietnam had officially ended.

Do these three leathernecks deserve more than just a Purple Heart? Probably, but I wasn't there and didn't read the book. In order to contact someone who knows something about awards and decorations for the Marine Corps try the Department of Defense at http://www.defenselink.mil/ . They have a "contact us" option at the upper-right of their web-page. I think that awards and decorations for the Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy are handled by the Department of the Navy. It is not all that unusual for medals to be awarded long after the fact. Indeed, I have heard of some WW II vets who have recently received medals which they deservedly earned 60 years ago. Good luck!
