Howdy William;

I don't remember it because I wasn't there. However, according to the 366th Fighter Group Association at http://www.366fightergroupassoc.org/Attacks.htm the attack on Da Nang Air Base on 7/1/65 was the very first of many. It was carried out by mortars and sappers at 0130 Hrs. (as opposed to rockets in later attacks). A total of 6 rounds were fired. 6 aircraft were destroyed, 3 aircraft damaged, 1 KIA, and 3 WIA. One enemy sapper was captured. Is this the incident that you're talking about?
