Larry,
you are absolutely right in saying this is not a game. We all take threats to our lives very, very seriously. I think both of us try avoid situations that could provoke us.

One time in the early 70's a militant feminist got in my face at a get-together and despite my efforts to diplomatically diffuse the situation she only took it as a sign of weakness and continued her diatribe against men in general and me in particular, even though I never met her and, therefore, could not have possibly have ruined her life.
Finally, she said something so offensive that I grabbed her by the blouse with one hand, and with my other one raised in a fist, told her I was now going to give her a reason to hate men, I threatened to mutilate her. She let out with a godawful scream and took off running like the coward she was.
"We're fierce. We're feminists. And we're in your face!" Yeah, right! Except when up against superior firepower.
