We live in a different world than we did back in the Nam days. When I look back at the Nam War, it is apparent to me more than ever it was the right thing to do. It most definately looked like the right move around 65. South Vietnam was seeking Democracy, had an army, a country, and a whole lot of good people died defending, and fighting Communism. There were attrocities, booby traps, and in your face combat in Nam, but there was not this filthy mess of cowardly suicide bombers whose aim is nothing but to instill fear and kill people of their own culture. They are not seeking a better life, and they don't even consider their neighbors desire for peace. The Vietnam War, often debated, rehashed, and studied for 30 years, seems so simple today. As old vets, our scars and wounds from war long ago are remembered vividly from the images of todays Soldier and sacrifice.

In Nam we didn't deal with an attack on our homeland. Things would have been even simpler and mission more apparent if we had, like Pearl Harbor. Today we live in an era where the enemy has his sights on everything we hold dear. Some things may work and some may not, but we cannot afford to become complacent ever again. The budget will have to include a strong military, intelligence, homeland security and better pay and benefits for those who defend this country.
