Howdy Sheri;

If you want to try the military service route, we need to know what unit your father, David Arthur Kilker, served in in Vietnam. At present we don't even know his rank much less what branch of service he was in. Even if his unit can be determined (preferbly down to the company level), you will have less than a 30% chance (for combat units) and less than 10% chance (for support units) of locating him that way.

Your best bet is to determine your father's Social Security Number from whatever documents that your family might have. The SSN will be on your father's DD-214 and any copies of orders for promotion and awards and decorations. From an SSN and for a few bucks, you can find out your father's last known address and go from there. You could also try a nation-wide white pages search and see how many hits you get on a "D. A. Kilker". If there are only a few, you could try making a few long-distance phone calls and see if you hit the nail on the head.

If your father is deceased, there is more that you can do because you qualify as next-of-kin, but let's hope that that isn't the case.
