Howdy Tuck;

What branch of service were you in? If it was Army, then there is no such thing as a "platoon roster". The Army kept track of people at the company level via "Morning Reports" which only recorded the names, ranks, and serial numbers of gains or losses for that day or for the previous day or two plus a headcount of the number of personnel present by rank. You can obtain copies of Morning Reports via a Freedom-of-Information-Act request sent to the National Archives and Records Administration in St. Louis, MO, but you had better be specific about unit down to the company level and exactly what dates that you're interested in. I know absolutely nothing about how the Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard handled that sort of thing.
