OK, you can send me the questionnaire and I'll see what I can do. I'll tell you right off the bat, however, that there was no racial discrimination in my outfit. We had Caucasians, Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, and Native Americans with each group represented at about the same percentages as they are in the general U.S. population. There was some racial tension with the rear-echelon troops between Blacks and Southeners, but it was rare and never amounted to much. A combat unit, on the other hand, could not afford the luxury of racial discrimination. Everybody depends on the guy to the left and right of himself and the only thing that matters is whether or not those guys are wearing the same uniform that you are.
