Reverend Jim, I tend to agree with Wayne on this one. Those few of us who do reply to posts on this BB who say they are Nam vets seem to be for real. True, there are wannabes out there but you can usually tell from their posts that they are. I don’t know why Veronica wants some of the information she is asking for but from the one email she sent me concerning a previous post she seemed sincere. I shared with her only a limited amount of info about myself.

I know that several of the regular posters here were not grunts and didn’t see or experience the same things that I did. That doesn’t mean that they weren’t in Nam or didn’t get shot at one way or another. It could even be that their tours were in some ways tougher than mine. I only lasted five months in the field (six and a half months if you count hospital time). I had to, and did, find a way to turn my fear off. If I hadn’t I couldn’t have done my job. I do believe that there were men in Nam who lived with that fear for an entire tour. They were able to do their jobs with that fear because their jobs were of a type that fear didn't get in the way, it may have even helped. So many men over so many years all with different situations and stories, it's hard to sort it out. I live with my fear now but that’s PTSD. Some times you have to read a few pages into a book to tell if it’s worth reading.
