Hi Jeff. Not to belabor the point but when it comes to how the enemy is going to use a statement the context it was in is meaningless. Any General since Patton's time should have it ingrained in their mind that there is nowhere on the face of this planet where something he might say will have no chance of going public. People expect politicians to put their foot in their mouth on a frequent basis. Even our enemy's expect that. But General's are in a class of their own. That's why there are courses that officers must take that teach them how and why they must be very careful about what they say so that an officer will not end up hurting himself, his men or his country. And yes, even though I'm an Army grunt I would rather follow General Mattis into battle than Clark any day of the week.
