Howdy Roy;

Try asking the 17th Infantry Regiment Association ( http://www.17thinfantry.com/ ) about it. The regimental history claims participation by elements of the 1st Bn, 17th Inf. during Counter Offensive VII, Conslidation I, Consolidation II, and Cease-Fire in Vietnam. However, the Order of Battle of the U.S. Army in the Republic of Vietnam (see http://www.gruntonline.com/Order%20of%20Battle/US%20Army/us_army_oob1.htm ) makes no mention of any units of the 17th Infantry as ever having served in Vietnam, but it does mention various troops of the 17th Cavalry Regiment.

It looks like the 1st/17th was never assigned to a division or separate brigade when it was in Vietnam, but that's just a guess on my part. Ordinarily, the 17th Infantry was part of the 7th Inf. Div. which was never deployed to Vietnam.
