Yesterday I had 2 peafowl hatch and now they are in their brooder. Everything seems pretty much fine, but I noticed that although both peachicks can walk pretty much ok (still a bit weak), one of them when it lays down has a habit of putting one of it's legs out from under it's body. Not always, but enough that I wonder if this might be a very early sign of a leg problem that I need to address sooner rather than later.
I might be being overly cautious, but I know that if there is a problem, it is better to "fix" it asap than to wait as it takes much longer to correct the longer you wait.
Are there any SURE signs that I would need to hobble the legs verses just a little weakness that would naturally go away?...or should I take action now and tape the legs close together so they won't go out from underneath the peachick. I did this with a guinea keet that I had waited on and taped the legs the "normal distance apart. It could still get around and over night, the problem had been solved. That keet was about 5 days old. I would like to catch this early IF there is a problem.
What are your thoughts.
Steven
