I wonder if you can help with something. There are a number of peacocks hanging out in front of the building I work in. They are pretty, but the peacock poop is getting awful. Is there a way we can scare them away without hurting them? I am thinking of getting a few big plastic owls. Do you think that would work?

I've bought a big plastic owl to try and stop my birds roosting in the wrong tree. I haven't tried it in the tree yet, but I have successfully stopped them from getting onto a sloping roof at my house (they were wrecking the slates and knocking all the mortar out from the joints).
It might seem a bit unorthodox, but I shook the big plastic owl at them and made really loud owl noises at the same time..lol. Anyone with peafowl knows they're usually pretty bomb proof when it comes to trying to scare them off of things, but shaking the owl and making a lot of noise worked. They've stopped going up onto that roof now....for the time being anyway. Might have to do some more WOOO-Wooo-WOOOO's!! and shake the owl again at some point...

I live in the uk where peacocks are a rare treat - might it not be better to clear up after them (the phoo goes quite hard and you can just pick it up after a couple of days! - and i promise you even get used to the smell!!!?)and enjoy their beauty - or maybe they are not so rare over there. Enjoy your peacocks!

Maxxie, Your neighbors are having a laughter fit at you! That's good for them tho, so keep it up even if they don't thank you!

When peafowl run loose there are always opposing viewpoints.
Some love to see them.
Others are bothered by the manure, the roof damage, and even
damage to cars caused by claws as the bird roosts on top or
when peacock sees his reflection on shiny waxed car and
thinks it is another peacock invading his space--so he
attacks it.
And others are bothered by the noise....and others actually
enjoy the noise.
As for peafowl poop--right now there is a pet juvenile
white spalding sharing my living room--and yes--there IS
a mess to clean up. She sleeps in pet box and spends most
of day out in pen with her sister

.....all these non poultry topics are worse than poop.
The ones from shama, innam, and arsalam do NOT belong here
and I intend to keep posting on top of them.
