It could depend on the season where you are. A peacock will
lose train and grow new feathers at end of breeding season.
Individual peacocks molt at different times even if they
all live on the same farm. Here where I live one peacock
will molt in May while another may keep full train almost
until October

I have had him a couple of years and previously he has been beautiful but this year he has never had the beautiful eye feathers but he does have all the others - he is fanning and chasing his ladies he seems fine but something is not right. We live in the UK.

Perhaps an animal grabbed him by tail feathers.

Strange things do happen. Some years ago I found evidence
that MICE were clipping tips of peacock train while those
peacocks were sleeping on perches in my coops.
I have had peacocks that would destroy thier own feathers.
Right now I am experimenting with feeding (as a treat) some
dry cat food to provide extra protein for a white spalding
who had been making himself look like a frizzle chicken. I
think that this has helped but will not be certain until he
grows his next train

I have just started feeding cat food as a treat they used to have peanuts but they are soooooooo expensive here now.
I will have to hope he has his lovely feathers next year - here they seem to drop their feathers about August sept

I rembember her very well. First she posted that she lost
26 peachicks when a storm uprooted a tree. But after
Hurricane Hugo several years ago nobody has heard from her.
I had her email address and sent a message but NO reply.
So I do not know if she is dead or just no longer is on
internet.

You are welcome. I am the "friendly poultry orthopedist"
and have my own forum now but I check on this one just to
clean house on spammers. This used to be a nice forum and
I do miss GrannyPat.
