>Wolfgang Menning is not mixing anything up! He is one of the foremost authorities on Green Peafowl and a dear friend and colleague of mine. Like most people working with dragonbirds he has had very little information to work from. Published accounts are next to nill and even William Beebe failed to take notice of the differences between the respective forms.

Annamensis and antiqus are not subspecies of muticus. They are species. Pavo imperator is more related to cristatus than either are to other green peafowl save for spicifer which is basal to the remaining forms including javanensis and imperator.

No entirely sure. No one has formally named it but the fossil form is named. Ill look it up and post it on the kickingthorn site.
