I HAVE A SPORTSMAN INCUBATOR AND I AM HAVING GREAT SUCCESS BUT WITH A PROBLEM EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE EGGS FORMING BUT WHEN THEY HATCH. IT SEEMS IF THEY DO NOT GET OUT WITHIN 8 HOURS THEY SEEM TO DRY UP IN THERE. I BOUGHT THE GQF HATCHER TO ACCOMPANY THE SPORTSMAN INCUBATOR TO HELP SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. BOTH ARE FORCED AIR AND I HAVE 2 OF THE SPONGES THAT COME WITH IT IN THE WATER PAN. I RUN BETWEEN 50% TO 60% HUMIDITY IN THEM AS THIS IS THE HIGHEST LEVEL I CAN GET IT UP TO. BUT THE GLASS DOOR ON THE INCUBATOR DOES TEND TO GET WATER BUILD UP ON IT OFTEN SO I KNOW MY HUMIDTY GUAGE I HAVE IS WORKING RIGHT AND EVEN BOUGHT A NEW ONE TO MAKE SURE IT WAS CORRECT. I LIVE IN TEXAS AND IT HUMDITY HERE OUTSIDE STAYS IN THE 80% RIGHT NOW. WHAT CAN I DO TO RAISE IT MORE TO KEEP THE CHICKS THAT ARE STRUGGLING A LITTLE LONGER THAN THE OTHERS TO NOT DRY OUT. NOW IF THEY ARE JUST PEEPED THEN THEY DONT DRY OUT. ITS WHEN THEY HAVE THEY EGG CUT ALMOST ALL THE WAY AROUND WITH A PRETTY GOOD GAP INBETWEEN BOTH THE TOP THIRD AND THE BOTTOM 2/3 OF THE EGG. IF ANYONE USES THIS INCUBATOR OR KNOWS A CURE PLEASE GIVE ME A FEW POINTERS ON IT. BECUASE I NEVER SEEMED TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM WHEN I WAS HATCHING OUT OF MULTIPLE STYROFOAM INCUBATORS AND NEXT YEAR I AM GOING TO TRY HATCHING THE PEAFOWL UNDER EITHER MY BUFF ORPHINGTONS, COCHINS AND SILKIES.
THANK YOU

First off - TURN YOUR CAPS LOCK OFF. It makes it harder to read when everything is in caps.

Where is your incubator located - in your air conditioned house, outside, etc...

My hatcher is kept around 55% to 65%, also a GQF sportsman. My incubator is kept around 35% to 45%. This works for my setup - I am in central Arkansas where we also have a high humity.

The incubator is indoors in our bedroom, and thanks for the advice.

Because your incubator is in an air conditioned space it will be hard to get the humidity any higher. The humidity outside of the house is not a consideration. The sportsman draws in more fresh air (which is necessary because of its size) then the Styrofoam ones. This means more drier air conditioned air.

My incubators are now in a heated brooder house and can make use of some of the natural humidity here. The down side is all my eggs must hatch before the temperature gets to the upper nineties and over a hundred.

I know this does not directly answer your questions.

Because you have water running down the glass on the inside of the door, the air outside of the incubator is cooler than the air inside – a lot cooler. Like the condensation on the outside of a glass of ice water. This is working against you. The hatching chicks need the additional fresh air – but the fresh air is cool and dry. I believe this is why they don’t have as much time to hatch.

I also use the GQF incubtors, best to keep them in a room without the air conditioner.(below 95) Best thing to do is add another water pan, also lay eggs flat and manual turn the eggs 2 times a day, plus use the auto turner.
