A poultry lab doctor told me that the worst outbreak of cossidiosis was in a brand new brooder house. ---------- Keeping peachicks off the ground for as long as possible keeps them from picking up worms. Four weeks after first contact with soil I give the first worming with Levamisole hydrochloride....which means four weeks of age for peachicks with peahen mother.

Levamisole hydrochloride is the chemical name and it is often sold by that name but also has brand names "Tramisol" and "Levasole". So if you read the Flubenvet container and find out what is in it..... ---- Does the UK have agricultural extension agents?...maybe by a different name. Here in Georgia USA these are with agricultural colleges. Also because Georgia is a BIG producer of eggs and chicken meat as well as other poultry and game such as quails--there are state poultry labs.

The active ingredient in Flubenvet is Flubendazole, which appears (reading from Google) to treat nearly all worms infections. It doesn't treat for coccidiosis. Sorry to be a right pain in the arse DCT, but do you treat for coccidiosis as a preventative measure, or is it something you treat when they GET it? I feel such an idiot asking that! In answer to your other question, there are poultry labs here I think, but I'd have to do a search to find one. Luckily all my birds are very healthy (apart from always trying to get the red mite issue under control!) xx

My chicks aren't eating chick crumbs anymore, they're on chicken pellets, maize, crushed dry cat food, crushed peanuts and fruit (yeah, it's gourmet here..lol) I'm unsure how to give them preventative coccidiosis medication. I AM going to get some stuff you put in water and sprinkle around their area to make it hygenic though. Don't tell me I should be still feeding the little blighters chick crumbs though! Have I done wrong? They're getting on for two months now and are eating really well. I have to feed them twice a day.

I used to use Oxine to treat and prevent EVERYTHING...Is it as safe for peafowl as it is for ducks...It was great for keeping slime out of the waterers...mold and mildew from forming in their houses...Used in a mister it was excellent for treating respiratory ailments...It's wonderful stuff... Also...I worm my ducks with Ivermectin...Can I use that on the peafowl too???

I'm going to do a search right now and see if I can buy some in the UK...it seems to me that I should treat for it anyway - can't see the harm in that.
