It's been awhile since I've been here and I see many new faces. DCT, I'm happy to see you here always ready to help, I know you've helped me many times in the past.
I still have 3 pens of B/S. My males are almost done with dropping their tails, so I've upped the amount of protein they're getting.
I had some trouble with fertility in one pen, 4 hens and 1 peacock. What do you think, too many hens or should I look for some other factor - feed-too close breeding? Thank you.
Phyllis

>Phyllis Phyllis, how old is the male, and can he see the other males in other pens? I feed my breeder a 20% protein. A male 3yrs or older should be fine with 4 hens.I have up to 6 hens per male. So i would say some other factor.

Thank you Deerman:

Yes, he can see the male in the next pen. In general they get along, once in awhile they will jump at each other but no real fighting.
They all get a 16% layer pellet, and a scoopful of dried cat food. Various grass and other greens.
He was 3 this year and had the most beautiful train, almost as long as my 5 yr olds.

Phyllis, need some kind of bind so males cant see each other.they will watch him more than taking care of his hens, worm them before breeding season and raise the protein to 20%
