I have a white peacock about one year old. He has been gasping for air now for a while and makes a funny noice. He appears to be eating. I am new with peafowl, and I am not quite sure what could be wrong. I have been administering Ivomec through their water, once a month, and it does not appear to help at all. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

=====
You need to have your peacock checked by a vet.
This could be something besides worms.
But while we are talking about wormers--the Ivomec does
NOT treat the capillary worm. This tiny worm frequently
causes death of peafowls--especially young ones but
sometimes adults.

My baby died this morning. Thank you for the response. I tried everything....just could not save this one. Such a beautiful bird.
Thanks again.

You are welcome.
Sorry that you lost your baby. I have had to bury some very
precious (to me) birds so am familiar with the pain.
This evening I lost a peachick that I was giving
orthopedic treatment. Though I had know this one just a few
days I hated losing it

My tiny orthopedic patient drowned in a way that does NOT
seem possible. I tried CPR but it was too late. My state,
Georgia, has poultry labs that are free for residents of
this state. They have indeed provided necropsy and other
valuable help with poultry

Thanks guys for your kind words. I hope there will be no next time, but I will follow your instructions regarding the cause of death....next time. I didn't do it this time.

He could have had Canker, which is like a sore throat. Sores in his throat would make him keep gasping.I use Fish Zole pills for this, which I get from Smith's Poultry and Gamebird Supplies. Are you using an oil based Ivomec? An oil based product will float on top of the water so it will not be evenly distributed.
