I am so excited! My peahen just hatched 3 babies! They are so cute! I feel bad though, for taking them away from her. I just don't trust the weather, and her being a first time mom. (Plus, I don't know what's in the dirt of their pen.) I have put them in a plastic storage container with a heat lamp on them. They seem to be doing good. The air temp at the bottom of the container is about 95 degrees. I took Kermit's advice and am feeding them soaked dog food. They eat it ok, as long as I have my fingers in it. They drink fine, too. I am just wondering if I need to be feeding them some thing else other than just dog food. And if I should worm them already. (They were hatched out on the ground.) I just can't believe how much more friendly these babies are compared to ones that I've hatched in the incubator! It's kind of crazy! :) They are so cute!

They can still be suseptible to coccidiosis, which can kill them. You might also add some medicated chick starter, that will help prevent them from getting it.

Firstborn and her five babies ate medicated starter along
with hardboiled eggs and some bread. I did not worm those
peachicks until they were four weeks old. They were kept in
a secure minicoop until six weeks old and then moved back
home to the pen where eggs were laid and incubated. The
peachicks' father and another peahen are there, too.
Firstborn is dominant and chased the other peahen.
Do not let any wet food be with the peachicks very long
because it can spoil and make them sick.
------
When Malice wanted to incubate eggs I removed those eggs to
henhouse. Malice is violent enough without peachicks and I
do NOT want to find out how much trouble there would be if
she could have peachicks to protect.
