I started out trying to navigate the system on my own, but it was like running into a brick wall with each attempt on the three occasions I had tried over 25 years (1975-2000) and each time I had given up trying due to my frustration
at being denied with each attempt. I finally hooked up with our county veterans representative and went through all the hoops with the VA and all of their testing and still got no where after two years except for a 10% rating for my
skin condition. They then told me that they were going to send me to see the Purple Heart Society which was located at the VA hospital center in Detroit, Mi. who would handle my appeals for my exposure to Agent Orange which I
felt was the main cause for my own worsening disabilities. After running through all the hoops again for an additional 6.5 years and many more denials from the VA I was then called back down for what they called a final physical evaluation of my case in October of 2009 and then suddenly in late Nov. 2009 I had received a determination letter from the VA telling me that they were approving all of my appeals and they gave me a new rating of 80% totally and permanently disabled due to my own heavy exposures and that it was considered to be service connected and that I would also be given an additional 20% for unemployability as well and would be paid at the 100% rating starting in Dec. 2009. When I looked at the list on the second page of the reasons they used to determine my case, I was totally shocked as I read the list, you see this was the exact same list they had always sent to me with each denial letter as being the reasons that they were denying my claims and appeals, now it said these were the reasons that they determined proved to them that I would be awarded for my Total & Permanent service connected disability rating and there was a very large retro active back pay check as well. Good Luck and Remember Never Give Up & Never Give In To Frustration! Terry Sasek BT 68-69 LM#687
