Just as you and I celebrated the 50th Anniversary of our enlistment on September 14th, I remember our time in Tech School and at Kunsan AB, Korea very well. I remember the day that we volunteered for Vietnam together, and then realizing months later that the only reason we were able to leave Korea during the Pueblo Crisis was that we already had orders for Vietnam.

I know that there are other VSPA members who were in Korea for the Pueblo Crisis. The build-up was incredible. Kunsan had 900 personnel before the Crisis and 6,000 three days later as the C-141s flew around the clock. It was cold and crowded with platoon tents everywhere. Some wise logistics folks sent tents from Taiwan with fans instead of kerosene heaters. When we left for Vietnam, it took 24 hours to get on a C-124 full of C141 tires that was enroute to Osan. Slept in a tent there in three feet of snow. Got to Vietnam and the temperature increase was about 100 degrees...plus mortars.
