Subject: Squadron Commander, 6251 USAF Dispensary, Bien Hoa AB

Hi… was just surfing the web looking for any info on my old base in VN and came across the website...was stationed at Bien Hoa in 1971 and 72. I was the squadron commander and dispensary administrator at the 6251 USAF Dispensary at the time. That was during the “Vietnamization” period of the war and there weren’t many Americans left on the base. (Guess base security was getting critical, too!) The only photo I recognized was the dog handler in #62…

remember talking to him at the passenger terminal and taking some pictures of him working with the dog.

I knew Capt. Houchin. I believe he extended and stayed on the base until the end. Good man. (I was sent up to Da Nang). Retuned to San Antonio and stayed until recently retiring in Las Vegas.

Thanks guys for keepin’ us safe in Bien Hoa!
Good luck and keep well!

Chuck (Charles Eckerson)
