Subject: Requesting Assistance (especially from our Thailand Brother)

I received a request for advice from a Vietnam Veteran that was stationed at Takhli RTAFB in 1967. He recently received a denial from the VA for his claim of Agent Orange exposure during his service there. Here’s what said….

“Although my primary duties were not in the Air Police and security services, I was asked to serve as an "augmentee security guard" while stationed there. You may be aware that this was a common practice during that time due personnel shortages and periodic insurgent threats in Thailand and especially along the perimeter of our air bases. The VA is asking for military records that I served as an "augmentee" of which there is none. I suspect due to the assignment being "as required and periodic". I don't know why there are no records. I did send the VA a testimonial outlining the additional patrol duties I performed. I also was able to find a fellow airman who performed augmentee service with me and he provided a "buddy letter." Yet, the VA is asking for additional proof and I am at a loss as to my next step.”

Can any of our Thailand cops share advice/guidance on the following issue so I can get back to him with some help?
Have any of you (Thailand brothers) filed for AO exposure and if so, what was your experience in dealing with the VA?

Thanks.
Jaime
