We did have ground sensors, and if my memory is correct Phu Cat was the first in country to utilize them at an Air Force installation. Again I might be wrong but I do beleive they were first installed by the Safe Side 1041st and then after they departed were controlled and maintained by Cobra Flight at what was desiganted initially as Hawaii. I only went out there a couple of times on SAT but they were very effective. When I was on Tower Target assignment I had my own sensor detection albeit non electronic. I heard the screaming of a Moncoose in the bush I let fly with a thousand rounds from the 60. No VC dare come near my area let alone I didn't have to worry about any potential Cobra's man or snake sneaking up on me for that matter all night long!
