We most certainly had the metal sensitive wires between certain posts which were monitored by the Guard on duty. Although they were supposed to be sensitive to metal only, we picked up many false alarms generated by animals &/or snakes nearly every night. CRB was such a large base that we could not have possibly covered it all with just guard towers & K-9 Security Posts. Just a guess at this time, but I can vaguely remember well over 100 men standing guardmount on Phantom Flight (mid-night shift) The monitor for the wires would be in guard shacks for the posts involved. The guard would normally re-set the alarm device and notify CSC. I can't say how effective the alrms were, but I suppose they were better than nothing in the event there was a large number of penetrators attempting to enter the base.
