Hey Bob, glad to see the online reunion is now going on here, had a very long day today having all of our old galvanized plumbing removed and replaced with that new plastic stuff called pex. It took until real late this afternoon for them to complete the job but it is much neater appearing system and we won't have to hear all of the banging noise those old galvanized pipes made every time the wash machine cycled out. Glad that mess is over now, now to the online reunion. I enlisted on the 2nd of Feb. 1968 and after basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas I spent a couple of weeks on cleanup duty at the gun range while waiting for the next technical school class to begin at Chanute AFB, Ill. for their Heavy Duty/Special Purpose Vehicle Maintenance Technician course on Crash-Fire & Crash-Rescue trucks. After completing that course in late October of 1968 I went home on leave and had to tell my family that I had volunteered to go to Vietnam for my first duty assignment, they weren't happy about it at all. I left for Vietnam on the 14th of Nov. 1968 and I arrived down at Binh-Thuy on the 18th of Nov. 1968 and I was quickly assigned as an augmentee with the 632nd Security Police Sq. and I was assigned as a tower guard at the Hilton Compound off base after a refresher course on weapons and the rules of engagement and operating procedures. After a week I was assigned to new housing on base and then spent Dec.68 & most of Jan.69 as a perimeter guard at the end of the runway or on the V-100 APC with the Quick Reaction Team, I spent my first week on base riding with Lew Goldberg doing the coffee runs & post checks of each post. During the same time that I was an augmentee, I still had to work part of the dayshift working on the crash-fire trucks for both the Vietnamese and our own crash-fire trucks with the 632nd CSG. After my year, I rotated back home in Nov.1969 for leave before reporting to Scott AFB in Illinois where I finished my last 2 years in the Air Force and was separated from active duty and received my Honorable Discharge on the 1st of Feb.1974 after completing my full 6 years. I hope everyone will be safe at the reunion in Florida and that more members will join in on the online reunion with us. Terry Sasek BT 68-69 LM#687
