I can testify there was no AZR in early 1965. All my training came in May 65 in the Phillipines, saw the M-16 for the first time in my life, can remember firing a clip and being told a round could go thru an engine block? Gamma something shot based on your weight, I was skinny so only had a small hard knot in my butt for a week's. We moved around on a flatbed truck to various functions, everything was accomplished in mass and quickly.Spent 3 days, then off to Nam, fully qualified to fight and completely confused and uninformed. Nha Trang was like a western movie, thought John Wayne might come out of CSC and greet me with "Howdy Pilgrim." Big sign saying sheriff's office, on the building or tent. A MSGT Stewart introduced himself as man in charge. Big man with COl Olds mustache and six shooter strapped to his leg with rds all around the belt. Most all the NCO's had that pistol strapped to their leg. We would report for pay, was in greenbacks. Have to remember this site is public. Let me just say the place was a joke, things slowly shaped up by the time I left for Phan Rang in Nov 65. We all have our stories, impressions, and clouded memories, funny how these things come back when the old mind gets jogged Anyway thats my input to the AZR question and I'm sticking to it.
