There might be a few more bits that could be gleaned from that post but I would say on balance that is a fine summary you offer Pat.

I have always been an independent sort and naturally resist anyones effort to suppress any speech or behavior. If we expect to be left free to live and express as we wish we must value freedom in all its forms, warts and all. And we cannot presume to "grant" others that freedom. It is not ours to grant. We each possess that freedom as a natural right. Madisons's remarks reminds us that we need not fear the government acting contrary to our wishes so much as we should fear the danger of the government harming us by acting as the instrument of the majority.
