Subject: A Survivor of Binh Thuy AB Jan. 10, 1969

I'm one of those survivors of the two deadly attacks on Binh Thuy AB on Jan. 10,1969, we will never forget our brothers that had been killed or wounded in both of these attacks. I want to thank two very important men at Binh Thuy AB for they more than any others made a very serious impression on this crash-fire & crash-rescue truck mechanic as I had served my first two months working on our trucks and making this kid understand just how serious and deadly things were out there on the base perimeter road or over at the Hilton compound off base by Tra-Noc village by the Bassac iver or even while on the QRT V-100 armored vehicle. S/SGT. Lew Goldberg taught me how to be an augmentee and I rode with him on the patrol jeep and took coffee out to the guys out on the perimeter and Lew would tell me if anything happened while we were out there to make sure that I didn't shoot any of our guys by mistake and he said we wear the green uniforms and Charlie wore black pajama's or loin cloth and don't shoot at anyone unless I tell you too, I've always liked Lew and learned a lot from him. The other guy who impressed me and I did listen to his advice even if sometimes he didn't think I was listening was M/SGT. Billy G. Suggs as he would answer any questions even if I thought it might be a dumb question, but he told me a few different times that the only dumb question is the one you should have asked but you didn't ask because you didn't want someone else laughing at you for asking it in the first place. Some might say they were just doing their jobs, but to a 20 yr. old kid who had gone to be a firetruck mechanic and never dreamed that I would ever have to actually fight in the war. It's because of them that I have live another 49 years that I might not had been blessed to live since then. I married a very beautiful and loving wife who helped me survive PTSD and we were blessed to have a beautiful daughter and a very handsome son and they have blessed us with a grandson from our daughter and her husband and three very beautiful little granddaughters from our son & his wife and I got to be a father and a very proud grandfather who is very happy everyday to have survived my tour in Vietnam and I thank all who helped me there, but especially Lew Goldberg and also Billy G. Suggs for the extra 49 years I might not have had but for them training me so well. Thanks Guys!!!! Terry
