ok so here's the deal. I have gay friends and I am sure they would not be happy with me that I voted yes but call me old fashioned or biblical but I believe marriage is between a man and a woman, as God said in the bible and as He intended.
Prop 8 had NOTHING to do with the rights and benefits of gay couples. They do not lose their rights as they are now, that is, to visit each other in a hospital if one of them is seriously ill and it is "family only" - they can still do that, they still have the rights to insurance under the other's insurance plan. So, the only thing Prop 8 was about is being able to marry. And I won't apologize, this is how I feel.

Like Mike, I don't know what you're talking about with all the race comments. I DID live in the Dallas area for over 20 years and have lived here in California now for 10 years and I really do not see race as an issue. When I first lived in Texas, yes, but that was 30 years ago. I grew up in Florida and yes, there again, but that was many years ago.
Today I really do not know what it's like there in Dallas, I have been back a few times for my family but well, I guess I didn't get out and interact much with the society at large in the DFW area but......whatever.....
Also I do believe African Americans no longer wish to be called "black".
Now here's an interesting take on that:
My mom was raised on a farm in Mississippi, she was born in 1921 and back then, people called African Americans "negroes". When I was coming up in the 60's and 70's they preferred to be called "blacks". I remember this clearly because a "black" friend of mine had left his notebook at my house and came back later for it when I wasn't home. When I got home, my mom said "Some negro came by to pick up his notebook".
Interesting, yes?! Old habits die hard. This was the 70's but Mom still called them "negroes" till the day she died (last September) because that is what she had always referred to them as. We had several African American maids when I was growing up and Mom refered to them as "negroes" and they didn't mind, weren't offended.
It is just interesting to me how words, names, customs, etc evolve over time.

Ok, I'm ranting (took an allergy pill which seems to be kicking in here) and I should get to bed now.

I'll remember later if I forgot to cover anything I wanted to..........
