Reading "Katherine" as a teenager in the early 70's started my lifelong fascination with her and that period in English history. The story was very similar to any romance novel which featured a beautiful woman and a dashingly handsome and powerful man, yet because it was based on true people and events, it drew me to read it many, many times. I actually wore out my copy of the book.
Once I became an adult I took a trip to England to visit family and tour around. Visiting Lincoln Cathedral led me to Katherine's and Joan's tombs. I had forgotten that they were there and, upon reading their names, I was brought to tears at finally greeting the real women.
My strong feelings of connection to Katherine became understood about 6 years ago when my uncle's research into our family geneology led to discovering one branch of the family tree where he learned who our first English ancestor to come to America was. Her name was Dorothea Scott Gotherson. In tracing her ancestry my uncle was led directly back to Katherine through both John and Joan Beaufort. So I am Katherine's great (many times over) granddaughter!
