Why not? Should the sins of the Father be visited upon the Son? Do we still hate the Germans for the Holocaust and the Japanese for such atrocities as they committed during the Second World War?

Moreover, Britain did a great many things that have benefitted the world. We pioneered technology, spread free-trade, taught the world to read and write. There was a whole class of educated Indians working for the British for example. Further, we ran a subcontinent of millions with a mere 100,000 strong Indian Civil Service. No small feat. We "discovered" and mapped entire tracts of the world.

We did some terrible things, but we did many great things too, and this gets lost in the self-hating, apologetic British opinion of today.
