For Britain or the United States, for the United States it was. Had the United States remained a colony it over all economic development and industrialization would probably have gone slower and the massive waves of immigration from place like Germany, Eastern Europe, Italy, ect, would most likely not have happen or been far smaller. Had the US remained a colony it would probably be a smaller nation now than what it is.
