Compound interest doesn't make a bit of difference, the real rate of interest was negative for the vast majority of the life loan, almost of every year. So in real terms what the UK paid back to the United States was less than the value of the loan. Why do you think that banks hate high inflation? Like I said if Uncle Sam was that greedy don't you think we would have chosen an interest rate that insured we made money?
