I have just finished reading this book ( A Few Bloody Noses). I agree that it is an even handed account. It does no favours to either side and it does redress the balance on the issue of the American 'creation myth'. All countries have them. From what I know of US schooling there have been some attempts to redress the balance in recent years, but its a slow process as most teachers of history are inevitably not specialists in this period and naturally rely on knowledge they were taught.
