Things happen for a reason, we unified India, and gave them national identity, sure enough this did break down but still a major portion of the "old" India is still intact and on the way to becoming an emerging superpower. Gandhi was a traitor to a regime that was in the late 1940's slightly hypocritical, and for a nation seeking self governance, like all nations should have and have the right to (does anyone disagree?) he was a Hero...The British Empire was on the way out, if it wasnt for Gandhi India may have been lost in a much more bloody and less respectful way causing more loss of life.

Ofcourse India has its problems, but that is the price a nation pays those in poverty would still be in poverty under imperial rule though atleast they're own country men may have more chance of empathising perhaps?
