Well we do have various medals that recognize equal contributions, we could replace the titles with different medals, or the word empire be replaced with "Excellence" so no changes to the abbreviation be made. Although I must add with my republican view points as much as I adore a meritocracy were various worthy individuals are awarded, Titles should be abolished. As I said medals can be good...

Also I agree with titles such as Dr, Capt, and Professor so maybe I am slightly over critical, but these are professional titles not really the same kind of elitist standing as Sir/Lady/OBE/KBE etc etc etc
