Subject: Anglins in Italy? Leake County Mississippi

Jefferson Anglin came from Italy to the US around 1857.

Actually the story handed down was that He and a brother(name unknown at this point) stowed away on a ship from Italy to the U.S. They got off the ship(?)in Biloxi Mississippi, and went separate ways.

Marriage records show that on July 27,1859 he married Sarah Ann Hutchins in Madison Co. Mississippi. In 1860 Jefferson was living with Sarah's family, Edmond R and Mary Hutchins in Leake Coumty Mississippi. Carthage Post Office.

According to this census Jefferson would have been born in 1833.

Not sure how long they lived in Leake Co. but in 1870 Jefferson and Sarah were living in Scott Co. with a Forest post office. They had the following children.

According to this census Jefferson was born in 1825.

In 1879 Sarah remarried. The marriage records has Ht Hall Aug 25,1879. Here they are back in Carthage in 1880 with the Anglin children.

What year was Jefferson born? 1825 or 1833? and what was his italian name? Is Anglin even a Italian name? Was it easy to change a name back them? How can I reserach this further?

Also, what happened to Jefferson between the year his youngest girl was born (1873) and Aug 25 1879 (Marriage date of Ht and Sarah) Not sure if he died in Scott or Leake county. or where he or Sarah was buried either?

According to the records of the state of Mississippi they were not required to keep birth or death certificates until November 1,1912.

So where do i go from here to find out more info on Jefferson Anglin? Ive been searching for possibly descendants of Jefferson and Sarah's children to get more info but also at a roadblock trying to figure out some of the sisters initials from the 1880 census. I have researched William J up to 1930 in Union Co. Arkansas, and Edmond C(Richard) Annie Lara, and Mary Issabelle up to 1930 in Leake Co. Mias. The other 3 sisters I dont have any information or names on.

The immigration year 1857 was on a 1910 census for Jefferson's son, William J Anglin (misspelled as Auglin in census) who had moved to Union Co. Arkansas around 1900.

William J Anglin is my gg grandfather, and Jefferson would have been ggg grandfather.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
