Kelly of New York, Sailor/pub owner

Any help would be appreciated. Seems like I have hit a brick wall on establishing my grandfather date of birth.
who his parents was and when he died and if he married again and had other children.
Info I know for sure.. Is as Follow that I got from my fathers birth certificate dated 4/15/1931
Name Patrick Francis Kelly age 29
DOB abt 1902
Born New York
Occ. Sailor in the Navy
wife name was Violet Lawrence of North Dakota age 24

My dad once said he father ran a pub in Brooklyn New York area after he left the Navy and that he died about 1956.
That his father was from Dublin Ireland
But can't be sure on death date or other info since he had no contact with his two sons when he divorced thier mother,
between 1934-1942

Any Help would be great.. feeling lost and hopeless here..
