you will need to write to the branch of service, Navy men to the Navy, Army to Army,etc. Give them the SS # of the person, they will send you a copy of the discharge. The discharge will give the person's service number. With that and the other info on the discharge, write to the center in St Louis, they have a website don't know what it is right off hand, if you are very lucky the records you are hunting won't have been burned in the fire that occured in the early 1970's and they will send the records to you. Or you can check the local library where the person lived at the time of discharge in case they followed orders and filed their records there. Otherwise check the port of return local library. the records are only released to family members. to find the website type military records in the search box.
