Subject: Looking for info on Polly Bartly Knotts from Alabama

I am looking for information on my "Brick Wall". My great-great was born in Alabama, reportedly of Cherokee heritage. My great-great grandfather, Nathaniel Knotts from South Carolina, went to Alabama sometime between 1850 and 1855 where he killed a man and was arrested. He escaped, stole the sheriffs horse and ran, taking Polly Bartly, a cherokee, with him. We believe that Bartly was a married name and think that her maiden name may have been Pack, but we are not sure. They supposedly ran off to Texas, but not sure of that either. They also are said to have lived with the Cherokee, but not on a reseravation. We do know that they made a living of selling Indian Medicine after that, and my gg grandfather supposedly learned this from Polly's father who was a Medicine Man. If this rings any bells with anyone, I would appreciate any info.
