Subject: Down 2 @ half

SPC trails 32-30 at the half. Jenkins is 4-5 from behind the arc. Wish they would stop trying the alley oop, missed it at least twice in the first half. Video feed is very choppy for me

Very well played first half; good shooting by Peacocks.
Team has cooled off, now down 6.
Jenkins and Bacon thumbs up. Hall thumbs down.

Even though Hall did not score like he has in the past few games neither did anyone else other than the big three. However he did play an exceptional defensive game and ran the team very well while in there.Contrary to your eyes he had at least 3 steals and about 4 to 5 tip ball which were eventually recovered and several were converted into score for the team .He missed 1 foul shot but can you name someone that did'nt.There is more to basketball than scoring, learn the 20 century game and maybe then you will understand what JD is doing.Yes he started off slow but becane extremely agressive once he got going.Good game Jenkins,Bacon,Leon and Gooding Hall,Costner and Traore.Ignore the critics thy only wish that they were able to have achieved some of your accomplishments and future one.Hall there are people out here that know that you were unable to play or work out all summer and fall due to a broken foot and your reconditioning took place during the season, you've done a fine job at coming back and helping out the team. Continue to work on your scoring and come back even stonger next year, remember that you are a point guard and continue to play as such By the way we also know that in addition to Felician,,and several other out of state schools, Morehead State (Div.1) from Kentucky was also very, very interested in you and stayed in contact with you regularly during your senior year. However due to personal reasons you wanted to stay close to home and due to the Coaching Staff and school you picked St Peters.Hall and the entire team Thumbs up

You're either related to Brandon or don't know your basketball. He had one of his poorer games today, at least on the offensive end. Running the point, he showed little ability to get the offense started, was not able to penetrate nor get the ball to the shooter at the right place or at the right time. One only had to observe the differnce with Nick at the point. The last two minutes certainly illustrated that. Unfortunately using Nick exclusively at the point reduces his ability and effectiveness to shoot and score, a resource in short supply among our starters.

Curious why you went out of your way in your post to praise Brandon. Might be you had some misgivings on his performance today and only wanted to get in front of any critical comments such as what I have offered.

No need for the defensive posture, Brandon is learning and will contribute more as he gains the confidence and experience.

Not only do I know basketball and have played it probably better than you can imagine, as you are entitled to your views, then need I say more.I never said that Brandon had a good offensive game or that he burned up the floor with assist or penetration however, unlike your friend I did see an extremely good defensive game from him, what are we only allowed to speak on the negative. This is not a praise but a fact and I have seen this kid and several others that I will continue to support. The additional info was also just facts obtained from reliable individuals. You are right with time the kid's confidence will grow and so will his game.Just like last year when those were so critical of Leon and a few others it gets to a point when someone should bring out the positive as well as the negative.Even you should know that with your basketball knowledge. However this is not about us but the team so lets leave it at that. His defensive contribution did assist in the teams offense and I stand by that, but I do agree that he must penetrate and dish "when" our shooters are on the wings and he needs to score more often as he has shown that he is capable of.
Just curious, I also said positive things about Jenkins when his shot selection and scoring were being questioned but he continued to play good defense, am I also a relative of his.

Hey, we are all SPC fans....we can agree to disagree about a players performance in one particular game.
It will mean a lot for the club next year if Brandon achieves the traditional level of "freshman to sophomore" improvement.....which Bacon and Leon (to my surprise) did this season.
BH has had his ups and downs, like every frosh does. I am pulling for him. Next season, with a few more threats to score up front, Brandon can make a much bigger impact.
His level of quickness is my only issue......that will have to play itself out.
On the definite plus side, how about Leon!!! I never thought he had it in him at this level.....but he's been terrific, for the most part, over the past 12 games or so. Only Oldtimer called that one.
Club lost a tough one. Under 2 minutes and YSU made two very low percentage outside jumpers with a hand in their face with less than 2 ticks on the shot clock two possessions in a row. Also, their offensive rebounders were over our backs througout the second half, even knocking Jenkins and Gooding to the floor with no call made.
Let's figure a way to sweep next weekend (very difficult), have Manhattan beat Fairfield next Friday and SPC will finish 5th!

Not every player brings the best part of his game to every game or to each half of each game.
Yesterday Leon had only three points in the first half yet finished strong with 18.
Wesley who was on fire with 15 first half points managed but two buckets in the second stanza while throwing up a few air balls.
Bacon's ten was followed by five.
Akeem who led the way against Marist did not have a field goal in this one.
So I wouldn't be too hard on Brandon. As a frosh coming of an injury and not having played the level of competition that others have seen in high school-Colonia vs Bloomfield Tech,St Benedict's,Seton Hall and NYC,I think he's developing quite well.
We'd all like to see more offense, and definitely better free throw shooting, but his defense has been solid and I seldom worry any longer about a press, since all SPC has to do is clear out and let Brandon advance the ball.
It's nice to be playing "meaningful" games this late in the season.Next weekend should and will be a war.

I agree that we while should expect the same effort from every guy in each game , we should not expect the same results . So many variables determine how each guy will perform even given the same effort . And I think we as fans can only applaud the guys efforts for the last 10-12 games . They are great fun to root for .

I wonder if your half to half comments about the players may well have had something to do with Dunne's maneuverability being limited by Hill not being available . When you watch the effort by Bacon and Jenkins on both ends of the court last night , it is not surprising that each wore down a little in last ten minutes . Watching Wesley moving constantly on offense and defense was a fun watch . And it is just amazing to see all that Ryan contributes on both ends . But 35-36 at that effort level is very tough . There are very few KeeKees anywhere , anytime . But I think we saw in the end game with Wesley's airballs and Ryan letting a few rebounds get taken from him that a few more minutes of rest may have been crucial . Should take care of itself next year , but really hope that Jack is back for big last two games . Nick kept on keeping us in the game at the end , and it may well have had to do as much with his fresh legs as his ability to take charge at many games' end . Got my hopes really up when with about two min (?) to go Wesley made the defensive play , pushed it upcourt and made the pass to the wing for a three by Nick . It didn't go down but it was just the play we wanted so well executed . It reminded me so much of the Darrell to Orta play at the end of the Niagara game last year . All in all , a solid effort against an experienced and improving team on their court . Just another round of applause for our senior leader , Ish . He has done so many good things for us this year . I hope that as many as possible are there for his finale at Yanitelli .

It was also a lot of fun listening to their color guy saying that some of Ryan's moves around the basket reminded him of Kevin McHale , one of the very best ever around the basket . And his comment on one of Wesley's threes that he had not seen that type of execution before this year .

Don't think I'm being overly critical of Brandon. Just suggesting a more balanced appraisal of his stengths and weaknesses. Doubt he will ever develop into a good shooter or scorer, but he must learn better how to run an offense. Penetration, kick outs, getting the ball at the right time to the shooter, all are skills that he must improve upon. Too much time is being spent at the start of a set not looking for an advantage, an offensive opportuntiy. On the other side, he does well in man defense. With time he will gain also in position and help defense.

Like you, I think the squad had shown great progress in the last eight to ten games. What I think we're seeing is a group of kids working much better together. Finally absorbing more of what is being taught, learning better their roles and, with this realization, gaining confidence in what they are capable of doing. Brandon will grow with this. As you probably are familiar, he has great support in Juanita, and good friends like Erik.

Development may never come as fast as we would like but, what is most encouraging, is that it is now something that we can clearly observed.

Just a few words,No one ever said that you were being critical of the kid, in fact the original blog was just my assestment of the kids game which was in response to someone else assestment. Posistion and help defense are probably some of his strongest assest, in fact he has a habit of over playing help defense but he's usually able to get back to his man, however you have to have an understanding of the game to comprehend this .In addition to the two support system that you mentioned, he does have additional family, friends and resources that have been in basketball for years. So your comments WELL COACH- lets stick to the basketball

Agree. Just one final note. I pointed out positioning and help defense as one of criticisms of the last game. Youngstown got off a few too many uncontested 3's. On several occasions, our guards were getting picked or failed to anticipate and switch when a screen was developing. Sometimes hard to cite or call out any one individual for this.

Again, the team is making progress and, those that have been critical should at least acknowledge that the kids are now buying into and absorbing what the staff is teaching. This is particularly satisfying to me since, as you might be aware, I proudly bear and own the colors of board apologist.
