Subject: Gutsy, Tenacious Win

Winning this game, when Manhattan played very well, with Ryan playing about 7 minutes, was one of the gutsiest performaces by a Peacock team in recent memory.
Bacon taken out of the game by zebras; at least 2 of his 5 fouls were of the dubious variety. Can't overstate how much his absence means, on both sides of the ball.
Gooding and Traore had games to remember in their Yanitelli swan song. Gooding scored, rebounded and defended and Ish rebounded well and held the fort, to the extent he could, with Ryan a non-factor all afternoon. It was good to see these guys, who never stopped trying, go out on a positive note.
To reference a previously noted trend, bench was outscored 17-8. We'll need Costner, Hall and Hill to improve their games significantly this off season.....they will need to do so to continue to get playing time, if Conley and Belin are the real deal. Last year, Jenkins and Leon averaged 13 and 10, respectively and Bacon showed hints of being good, even though he was banged up most of the season. This years frosh class has yet to show that type of promise.
Back to today's game....Leon's defender was quick and neutered his penetration, but Nick did not turn the ball over much and made a few big "3's" to keep us hanging around during the end game.
Wesley's 24 foot three at the buzzer culminated a game- long climb uphill from an early 13 point deficit.
This game was played at a much higher level than Friday's Iona win and our second half "D" and tenacity all game kept us, somehow, close enough to win it at the buzzer. Honestly, I still don't know how the club did it!
We'll be playing with house money at 10PM Saturday night against Rider. Will be a very tall order, but Rider is not playing as well now as they did in January, so unless the Broncs shoot lights out.....and if Ryan can stay on the court....we should be in it a long way with a reasonable chance to win.
I think this is only the second time in 9 years we won't be in the play in round. Closed out the MAAC 6-1.

I agree Loyal. Akeem and Ish were both outstanding. Traore really stepped up with 30 minutes of playing time as Bacon was saddled with fouls. This game was played with tournament type intensity. Akeem made some absolutely spectacular drives to the hole and finished as well today.
Also, don't discount the job Nick Leon did down the stretch making some big shots when we had to have a score despite overplaying Manhattan defense which was totally doubling our guards when they had the ball in their hands. Wesley was also outstanding again and the buzzer beater was a sweet thing of beauty. On to Albany and let's win one there.

Start with the first game and take it one game at a time. B/T/W we are 6-3 since the come from behind win at Iona on 1-31.
