I cannot believe it necessary but I mean bigger by the amount of money spent on the program, such as the salary of the head coach and assistant coaches versus SPC. Teams in A-10 St Louis,Xavier,St.Joe's,Rhode Island,UMass,Richmond,Dayton,LaSalle,Temple and St Bonaventure. All teams with much bigger commitments to basketball than the MAAC.We had our opportunity years ago to move up but we were happy being insignificant and that is what we are.

3 and 24...Sagarin ranked 324 out of 347.
Last in the A-10.
Whose players would you rather have?
If they're spending more money than we are, then they're wasting more than the current earmark saturated federal budget that Obama signed today.

That was not the issue Cindy. You can't see the forest for the trees. I would,if possible, rather be in the A-10 than the MAAC. I was not saying the current Fordham team was good or bad. They are obviously bad and I attribute that to bad coaching by Wittenburg.

A-10 is definitely a bigger conference. It would have been nice to have taken the opportunity years ago. Back then, we had a consistently better program (i.e. winning). But, of course, this could also be a double-edged sword. Both Fordham and LaSalle have done jack squat since leaving the MAAC. LaSalle had a number of NBA level players when they were the top team in the MAAC. They were perennial champs. Now, nothing. I think (could be wrong) Siena would meet the same fate should they decide to leave. But, I have to say that I can't blame them (or Fordham; LaSalle) for trying.

Of course it is more difficult to excel in a conference with so many good programs, but SPC is in a low rated conference and has been for the most part a bottom feeder since Dukiet/Fiore days.

The MAAC is rated 15th out of 32. Not exactly low.

If it was not for Niagara and Siena we would be ranked last..no matter what you say the MAAC compares badly against all of the real conferences in the country. I do not care about those below us like the MEAC or the Ivy league. I suggest SPC's first priority should be to modernize and clean up the Yanitelli.Hell the bleachers have not even been painted since they were installed in 1975. A real admin would tear down the Yanitelli and the parking garage and rebuild a larger and more moderm center with an underground parking areaa. We think small and we remain small.

And where exactly is all the funding for this supposed to come from in the midst of a serious economic downturn. The new administration and AD have in fact plans for modernization, but most have been scaled back or delayed due to the current cutbacks .Contributions to almost every institution have fallen and St. Peter's is no exception.
Further the future is not bright if Obama gets his way and deductions for charitable contributions are diminished or even eliminated .
Further ,your statement regarding how the MAAC compares with other conferences is simply wrong.Check your data.

Easy with the disses of "O", Cindy......after all, he's a big hoops fan/player...not everyone is lucky enough to include brush clearing among their hobbies :>)

Enough politics...

Cindy...question...in what order do you believe these three players are likely to make a significant contribution over the next few years?

a) Hall
b) Hill
c) Costner

I will go with Hill, Hall and Costner, in that order.

Thanks!

A B C ,but the contributions are so different and i expect each to be substantial.
School already had plans for major renovation of rec center which are on back burner as is much else due to pinch.

Regarding O...you have to be embarrassed by the first few weeks, tax cheats,Pelosi, earmark laden budget,no handle on the economy. Now hitting on charities.A popular charismatic man,who may not have a clue .

What kind of plans? I'd like to get some chairbacks in the bleachers.

I believe that was part of the deal, perhaps new scoreboards and improvements to lockers and training facilities, but as I said, all subject to the budget crunch.
Academic and need for student center needs are also in line.

The economic downturn is temporary. Let us hope that this new attitude by the administration is here to stay.

When the economy cycles back, we can think about the new scoreboards, lockers, and facilities. One thing I'd like to see, that I don't think is very costly, would be to get all our home games on some sort of streaming video. I think all that is necessary is camera, someone to move it back and forth, and an Internet connection.

That too has been in the works for a while, having hit a bump or two in the road,it will happen eventually.
While it might keep a few at home, perhaps the continuity of interest, might at least, bring an equal number out.
